Refunds & chargebacks
When a charge is refunded, TrackRev flips the order to refunded. Two things follow:- The order earns no attribution — refunded revenue is recorded but never credited to a channel, so your channel revenue reflects money you actually kept.
- Any affiliate commission the sale generated is reversed across every tier of the
chain, and its status becomes
refunded. Reversed commission also frees up room against your monthly commission cap.
With Stripe instant sync enabled, a
charge.refunded event reverses the order and its
commissions within seconds. Otherwise the hourly sync catches it on the next run.Partial refunds
For Creem and Dodo Payments, a partial refund is treated as a paid order — revenue was still generated and commission is still owed. Only a full refund marks the order refunded and reverses commissions. This avoids clawing back a partner’s whole commission for a small goodwill refund.Subscription renewals
Recurring charges are ingested as orders too. A renewal inherits the original sale’s channel and link, and its revenue is re-scaled to the renewal amount. This is what makes lifetime value by channel reflect true retained revenue rather than only first sales. For affiliates, whether a renewal pays commission depends on the programme’s recurring policy:- One-time — only the first sale earns.
- Lifetime — every renewal earns, forever.
- N months — renewals earn for a set number of months.
Renewal attribution requires the original order to have been attributed. If the first sale was
Unmatched, its renewals inherit that — another reason to
pass the visitor id at checkout.
